A lovely day for a walk

I took my first Find A Grave photos today.  It was a lovely day for a walk out-of-doors.

About 4 miles away from my home is the Holy Cross Cemetery, operated by the Catholic Diocese of Phoenix.  There were 4 requests from 2 different Find A Grave members and I can't say enough about how great the office staff at the cemetery are.  Reading the posts about difficulties experienced at one of the other Phoenix area cemeteries had given me a moment's pause, but this was truly a labor of love.

I can't encourage enough anyone who might be thinking that they can't do this, as I did for a moment or two.  It was a wonderful experience.

I'll make one last comment: the cemetery has a lovely pond with a mating pair of swans (Abraham & Sara -- according to the sign).  I was able to take a picture of Sara & her unnamed cygnet.  Any day with new bird photos has got to be a good day!

Find A Grave

Through the users group, Genea-Bloggers at Facebook, I found a reference to Find A Grave website.

What a fun place for genealogists!!  You can list your family members burial information there.  You can request help from volunteers to photograph the grave sites, if the site is far away from you.  You can volunteer to photograph grave sites for others.

I registered there on Father's day.  It seemed a fitting thing to do; I added burial information for my own father and his parents.  As the days go by, I shall endeavor to add information on other family members.

What a great additional tool for the family history researcher.

First post

After researching my genealogy for more than 25 years, I've decided to post some of the Kane family research online.  I shall also post some of the research that I've done for related family lines.
I'll start with the only photo that I have of my father's parents.  My father, Philip Hugh Kane, was born in Chicago in 1917.  His parents were Michael Hugh Kane and Anna Veronica McMahon.  They both died in the 1940's, long before my birth.  I have no idea when this photo was taken, but I'd guess the early 1940's.
